Georgie Richardson is a contemporary painter working from her studio at home surrounded by her garden and grazed fields and woods in the foothills of the Black Mountains that border England and Wales. Her work is intimate, fresh and joyous, celebrating the natural world through creative observation.
Georgie obtained her Fine Art Degree in Painting in Winchester School of Art finishing in 1996, since then she has been predominantly raising her family in Dorset and Herefordshire where they still live, very off the beaten track. Her focus has been on painting mostly what surrounds her, while not painting, when her children were little, she would always create gardens, patches of annual flowers and vegetables, where ever she was allowed, these became her canvases and her intention was to paint what grew there. Georgie is now doing just that and loves the accidental compositions that occur, intrusive weeds become quite interesting to her painterly mind!
Georgie's painting explores the passing of time, transience of life; flowers as a subject capture this ephemeral nature and she believes deserves attention. Domestic objects that transcend time to perform daily unassuming tasks, like feeding us, vessels that hold life all interest her. Her process always starts with drawing, then she prefers to work quite intuitively and freely, hoping to keep a fresh feel to the work.
