Denise Liebermann tells stories in paint. Her work is predominantly figurative and typically on a large scale. Sometimes the narrative is complex and we catch a stolen moment from a drama unfolding. Other times, she focuses on a much simpler and perennial theme such as the relationship between humans and their dogs.
Cerebral or thoughtful is typical of the reaction to Denise’s core work. Her striking large and lean oil paintings of figures, or figures with dogs, have immediate impact, yet they also invite interrogation. She explores 21st century themes of identity, introspection and connection, playing with co- existing ideas of human attachment and detachment.
